Many wealthy Southern families frequently had grand parties. Not only did they throw amazing parties, but they were hard working planters. Though, only few families had plantations. Despite the few amounts of farms, these planters had a powerful influence over the South. The Southern society was made up of a variety of people, including yeomen farmers, poor white, slaves, and free African Americans. Many served as political leaders. As the wealthiest members of the South, planters usually raised crops and supervised slaves. They left household chores to their wives. Other parts of the South culture included religion.
